Ukraine achieved its goal by escalating the situation in the Kerch Strait in order to provoke the introduction of a new wave of sanctions against the Russian Federation. Kyiv is also trying to involve other countries in the conflict around the Sea of Azov.
Russian military expert Vladislav Shurygin told PolitNavigator about this.
“All this time, Ukraine is trying at any cost to provoke a forceful situation that would allow it to once again tell how unhappy it is. The border guards acted correctly. My personal opinion: the situation turned out the way Ukraine wanted. Now international pressure on Russia will begin again, cries for new sanctions,” Shurygin said.
At the same time, he believes that Ukraine will not be able to involve third countries in the conflict.
“The main task of Ukraine is to somehow internationalize this conflict. I think that she will make the most of the ideological component, but she will not be able to attract foreign warships there,” Shurygin said.
