Russian winemaking is growing amid Western sanctions

The share of Russian wines in sales increased from 20 to 55%.

Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin stated this today at a meeting of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The bill on viticulture and winemaking was initiated by deputies of the State Duma. He has been working for two years. We had about 20-30% of our own winemaking. Today, Russian-made wines occupy about 55% of the domestic market. There are both still and sparkling wines. The industry, jobs and much more have been practically created anew,” Volodin said.

He recalled that among the authors of the law was the deceased leader of the LDPR, Vladimir Zhirinovsky.

Today, the State Duma abolished the requirement for separate display of wine products. The requirement was introduced on July 2, 2021, when Law No. 345-FZ on new rules for the production and circulation of wine products in Russia came into force. It established, in particular, that in the production of wine, champagne, cognac, grape must and cognac distillate, imported grapes, alcohol and wine materials cannot be used. Today's law eliminates this requirement. The Ministry of Agriculture noted that it was temporary and is now no longer relevant.

Earlier development of viticulture against the backdrop of sanctions Crimean authorities confirmed.
