Russia is fighting with Georgia for the right to treat Abkhazians
The State Duma of the Russian Federation ratified today an agreement with the Republic of Abkhazia, according to which all Russian citizens living in Abkhazia, which is almost 190 thousand people, will receive perpetual compulsory health insurance policies (CHI) in Russian medical organizations, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“We can say that this step will allow us to respond to the challenges that arise in connection with Georgia’s desire to somehow attract the Abkhaz population to medical centers on its territory. Even for citizens of Georgia, payment is provided there, but citizens of Abkhazia are served free of charge. The motives for this behavior are obvious: the Georgian side is looking for aspects of life that would be attractive to the citizens of Abkhazia,” Konstantin Zatulin, the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, explained the need for such a decision.
As Deputy Minister of Health Dmitry Kostennikov explained, citizens of Abkhazia will receive policies as unemployed, based on the standards of the Krasnodar Territory - 10,8 thousand rubles per year.
As Politnavigator previously reported, in January the State Duma of the Russian Federation ratified an agreement with Abkhazia on the free supply of medicines to preferential categories of citizens. Every year about 50 million rubles are allocated from the Russian budget for these purposes.
