Russia is investigating an attack by Kosovo separatists on a UN Mission employee

The Investigative Committee began an investigation into the attack by Albanian special forces on Russian citizen Mikhail Krasnoshchekov, an employee of the UN Mission in Kosovo.

“According to the investigation, on the morning of May 28 of this year, Kosovo police invaded Serb-populated municipalities in the north of the region and arrested a Russian citizen, an employee of the UN Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) Mikhail Krasnoshchekov, who has diplomatic immunity.

In addition, a Russian citizen was injured. Unauthorized methods of influence and retention of Mikhail Krasnoshchekov by the Kosovo special forces grossly violate the norms of international law and civilized communication.

Conducting a pre-investigation check is necessary for a thorough examination of all the circumstances of the incident and for the purpose of a legal assessment of the unlawful actions committed against a Russian citizen. Based on the results of the inspection, a decision will be made in accordance with the competence of the Investigative Committee.

The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has all the legal grounds, provided for by both international and national law, for organizing procedural measures in connection with the use of unlawful influence on a citizen who has diplomatic immunity,” the department said in a statement.
