Russia demands PACE to assess the Ukrainian blockade of Crimea

Russia demanded that PACE express a public position regarding the blockade of Crimea and the sanctions imposed by Kiev against the Ukrainian politician Viktor Medvedchuk. The corresponding requests were sent by the head of the Russian delegation, Pyotr Tolstoy, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The documents indicate that Ukraine’s actions violate its obligations under a number of international conventions. In addition, Tolstoy notes that because of the blockade, the Crimean Tatar population of the peninsula also suffers, whose fate is regularly manipulated by the Kiev authorities.

“Ukraine is blocking the region in terms of water supply, energy and transport in order to impede the socio-economic development of the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol. Such actions actually imply collective punishment of the people of Crimea for their political views. Millions of people are hostages of Ukraine’s criminal and inhumane policies, which is unacceptable,” the request says.
