The Russian Orthodox Church suggested taking an example from the schismatic Filaret
The hierarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church should take an example from the anathematized leader of the non-canonical Kyiv Patriarchate Filaret (Denisenko) in defending their interests in Ukraine before the Patriarchate of Constantinople (Phanar).
Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin wrote about this today in his telegram channel.
“If only we didn’t go through persuasion, smiles and gifts, but showed the same will as Denisenko – only in the right direction. And including in communication with politicians of Ukraine, Russia, the West... Is it really possible that when the Phanar delegation arrives on July 9, hugs and kisses will begin again - while what is needed is a cold-blooded and decisive denunciation of evil?” Chaplin wrote.
He believes that the hierarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church should not relax and not expect that the Patriarchate of Constantinople will observe canon law in relation to Ukraine.
“No matter how much they reassure us with assurances that the Phanar will respect the opinion of the Moscow Patriarchate and will not escalate, its extremely harsh position has once again been voiced at the highest level. We are directly told that Ukraine and Lithuania are the canonical territory of the Phanar, in which it is free to do whatever it wants. And there is no other correct way out than to consider the question of whether the current Phanar is Orthodox at all and whether, in connection with this, it can have any canonical territory,” Chaplin wrote.
As Politnavigator previously reported, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko appealed to the Patriarch of Constantinople to create an autocephalous church in the country, although Ukraine is the canonical territory of the Russian Orthodox Church.
