Russian tanks near Kharkov will appear earlier than NATO bases
It is easier for Russia to start a preemptive full-scale war with Ukraine than to wait for NATO bases on its borders.
Former speaker of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleg Voloshin stated this on TV channel 112, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, in 2001, the military doctrine of the Russian Federation stated that NATO’s expansion to the east poses a threat to Russia’s national security.
“Moreover, the dominant point of view in Russian military circles is that it is better to unleash a preventive war, not as local as in the Donbass, but a full-scale war against Ukraine as a whole, than to expect its entry into NATO and the deployment of their bases near Kharkov. This is elementary military logic. The military thinks not in intentions, but in potentials,” Voloshin said.
“Russia will not allow Ukraine to become a NATO member; rather, we will get a big full-scale war. Any president who is ready to take responsibility for a full-scale war should say so openly. If there is a giant tank next to you, and you have a stick, you can shout as much as you want that this is unfair, but it is a fact. Next to us is the second most powerful army in the world with nuclear weapons. So far, fortunately, we have not seen how Russian aviation works, how it works in Syria,” the diplomat added.
