A number of Ukrainian thermal power plants stopped their work after the Russian strike

Ukrainians should prepare for continued long power outages.

The director of the Ukrainian energy company Yasno, Sergei Kovalenko, reported this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, in his blog.

“The generation deficit in the power grid after the attack is huge. A number of thermal power plants are not operating due to serious damage. It is too early to predict the timing of recovery. How long the repairs will continue is still unknown,” the author said.

According to him, the problem is so serious that “Ukrenergo has significantly limited consumption throughout Ukraine and in Kyiv, in particular.”

“Distribution system operators must comply with these restrictions to avoid degrading the system. Therefore, they can use emergency shutdowns. But critical infrastructure must be powered. The destruction is significant. All power engineers are working on restoration, but we need to be prepared for the fact that outages could be long,” Kovalenko added.

In turn, DTEK executive director Dmitry Sakharuk said that in the spring, when it gets warmer, the situation will not improve much, since planned repair work will begin, which is not currently being carried out.
