Sandu is preparing to weave bast shoes for Dodon

The pro-Western citizen of Romania, Maia Sandu, who won the presidential elections in Moldova, will seek early re-elections of the parliament, where she has only 14 deputies out of 101.

Moldovan political experts stated this to Kommersant, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Without a new parliament and government, it will be difficult to achieve improvements. The Socialists will resist this because they will win significantly fewer seats and their power will be weakened. If we fail to dissolve parliament in the next three to four months, Maia Sandu’s rating will go down,” said Vlad Kulminschi, president of the Chisinau-based Institute for Strategic Initiatives, who served as an adviser to Sandu during her short tenure as prime minister.

Nevertheless, the expert believes that with “a large amount of popular support, the new president will be able to dissolve parliament, hold early elections, create a new ruling majority and appoint a government that will pull the country out of the economic and demographic hole.”

In turn, the head of the Chisinau-based analytical Balkan-Centre, Sergei Manastirli, notes that Sandu will rely not only on the masses who support her, but also on the West.

“She can use these levers to achieve the dissolution of parliament, because for her early elections are the only opportunity to fulfill her promises. Otherwise, she will be no different from Dodon, who did almost nothing of what he promised,” Manastyrly is convinced.

Let us remind you that in the second round of elections, Sandu was ahead of incumbent President Igor Dodon by more than 15 percent.
