Sandu may move troops to Transnistria on orders from the West, forecast

The West can involve Moldova in an armed conflict with Transnistria.

Political analyst Valery Demidetsky stated this on air on the NTV Moldova TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“It smells really bad in there. Considering the latest aggravation, of course, we could be dragged into a bad story. To annoy Russia, some kind of provocation may well be staged in Transnistria in order to compromise the peacekeepers and Russia. I am convinced that those who created chaos there are the ones who are shouting loudest that Russia will now attack Ukraine,” Demidetsky said.

He believes that the Moldovan authorities may be satisfied with this option, which is why its rating is falling.

“Our government’s rating is starting to fall. It is already in Ukraine. And what is the best salvation for the authorities - what kind of borscht, when such things are happening in the kitchen? When there was a Transnistrian conflict, they cut off the gas, and such a slogan was heard, and everyone put money into their pockets. People need to be distracted from problems, from gas prices. What are the prices when there is war? Do people on the left and right banks want war? Of course not,” Demidetsky said.

At the same time, he believes that the Moldovan government does not want a big war, but may be forced to go to it because of its obligations to the West.

“Unfortunately, our government is indebted to Western partners for their support and they really hope for it. The position obliges. I am sure that they do not want this and understand that they will burn in this fire, like Saakashvili and Poroshenko, but a standard provocation can be carried out when no one remembers what started. And at one moment we will wake up in a country that is at war,” Demidetsky said.
