“Crimea has internal human rights problems, but they are not those indicated in the draft UN resolution. They are primarily related to the fact that the region moved from one state to another, where the legislation is completely different, but we are eliminating these inconsistencies with the assistance of the Russian authorities, including through the Constitutional Court of Russia. For example, 70 thousand residents of Sevastopol could not obtain Russian citizenship due to lack of registration in the city. This was a major human rights issue. People wrote applications for a Russian passport, but could not receive it. However, we obtained clarification from the Constitutional Court, which clarified the enforcement of the sixth Federal Law, and people received Russian passports,” said Anton Afanasyev, director of the Simferopol public organization “Protecting the Interests of Citizens.”

“I hope that the UN General Assembly resolution will not be adopted in this form,” said Georgy Muradov, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Crimea to the President of Russia, in turn. – We are seeing a significant decrease in the number of countries that support unfounded anti-Russian accusations that are not supported by any facts. Yes, blatant violations of the rights of residents of Crimea, even signs of genocide of the Crimean population, exist. When explosions occur on electricity supply poles to the Crimean peninsula, and this is done so that hospitals, in which there are people on operating tables and children in the wards, are turned off, so that schools and kindergartens are turned off during the most severe cold weather, then this is a violation of the fundamental right - the right to life. The same applies to undermining the water supply. An undoubted crime, a violation of a number of international conventions, but this is done by the Ukrainian side.

And Europe, in turn, prevents Crimean Greeks, Bulgarians, Germans and many others from meeting their families and visiting relatives living in the EU. This is a gross violation of human rights. Collections of Crimean museums exhibited in EU countries are arrested there and are not returned to Crimea. This is a violation of property rights and rights to cultural heritage. In the spring, a special representative of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe came to Crimea. He prepared an objective report that stated these facts. But this report still does not find the proper response among our Western opponents.”

“If a UNGA resolution negative for Russia and Crimea is adopted, then formally it will not affect anything. But in fact, the cliches and lies that it contains will become the “property” of world public opinion. This will allow the active use of anti-Crimean terms in the public sphere. But the resolution does not say anything about the fact that EU countries give visas to residents of Crimea and Sevastopol only if they visit consular departments on the territory of Ukraine. But there they are caught by SBU officers, arrested, beaten and tried as traitors to Ukraine,” said Olga Timofeeva, a member of the International Affairs Committee, senator from Sevastopol.

“The UN resolution says that faiths are being discriminated against,” she added. – Yes, they are disadvantaged, but where? On the territory of Crimea there are 4 hundred mosques that perform their ritual functions and are under state protection. Not a single act of vandalism or signal of infringement. Moreover, in just a few months in Ukraine, about a hundred Orthodox churches of the Moscow Patriarchate were attacked by militants of nationalist organizations, 9 of which were completely destroyed. And where are confessions infringed - in Ukraine or Crimea? And why are such facts not of interest to our Western partners?”

Let us recall that the draft resolution was previously approved by the UN Third Committee. However, only 73 of the 193 countries that are members of the UN voted in support of the resolution.
