Semchenko: Zelensky is smart enough to screw up because of Lukashenko’s words about Crimea
The statement by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko that Crimea has become de jure Russian may be perceived in Ukraine as another reason to further deteriorate relations with Belarus.
Political scientist Alexander Semchenko stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The recognition of Crimea as Russian by Lukashenko will not change anything for Ukraine. Relations with Belarus have already been established. Unless Ukraine and the Ukrainian authorities will once again shoot themselves in the foot or somewhere else (but only themselves), and again block the supply of anything Belarusian. For example, they may refuse the same Belarusian bitumen, because it is already winter, and large construction has been suspended for now; roads are not built in winter.
Of course, it is simply unreasonable to spoil relations with Belarus even more. But our authorities can do anything, they can make another emotional decision. They could, for example, completely close the border to Belarusian goods. Maybe they will even go further, refusing to pay for goods already delivered, if possible. Of course, it will not be possible to actually cause significant harm to Belarus. But Zelensky is smart enough for this,” the political scientist said.
