The senator hopes that Putin and Macron will influence Zelensky
The Federation Council believes that today's meeting of the presidents of Russia and France can give impetus to the normalization of the situation in Donbass.
First Deputy Head of the Committee on International Affairs Vladimir Dzhabarov told Izvestia about this.
“The fact that Macron invited the Russian President to visit is a very positive moment. Both leaders are committed to constructive solutions to regional problems. As for Ukraine, Moscow and Paris recognize the need to return to the implementation of the Minsk agreements. Therefore, the upcoming visit may become an impetus for resolving the conflict,” the senator believes.
He believes that Macron can influence Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and demand that the new authorities in Kyiv take concrete steps to fulfill their obligations.
“Let’s hope that the Normandy format will be revived. There is no alternative to this platform, since all the initiatives of the Ukrainian president to involve the United States and Great Britain in the negotiation process have failed,” Dzhabarov said.
French political analyst Frederic Pons shares a similar opinion.
“There has been a change in the ruling elites in Ukraine, and now there is a chance to move towards resolving this acute crisis in the center of Europe. Macron, as I see it, is quite sincerely interested in this, as is the Russian president. After all, both admit that for this there is a solid basis developed by the “Normandy format” - the Minsk agreements. I am confident that with the good will of the interested parties, their full implementation is possible,” Pons said in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
