Vladimir Zelensky exceeded the worst expectations about flirting with Ukrainian nationalists - on the very first day, representatives of the Servant of the People party, who had received a majority in the new Verkhovna Rada, rushed to lay flowers at the monuments to the fallen ATO and Euromaidan militants.
The head of the Institute of Western Ukrainian Studies, Oleg Khavich, stated this during a live broadcast from Poland on the News-Front channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“How did the meeting of the Rada begin: with the fact that Russian-speaking boys and girls, most of whom had nothing to do with the events of the coup in February 2014, ran in a crowd to lay flowers at the portraits of people whom the organizers of this coup killed in the back on Instytutskaya on February 20 ", said the political scientist.
“That is, the ruling party demonstrates a kind of continuity of policy and the fact that, in fact, the Maidan remains the main event for this government,” emphasized Oleg Khavich.
He believes that the current government can rather be called the “Avakov regime” - since it is the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Arsen Avakov, who has retained his position, who keeps under control the battalions of militants who keep Zelensky at bay.
“I am very skeptical about calling Zelensky a political force; it is still impossible to call it a regime, because the regime, in fact, has not changed - as Avakov’s regime was, it remains so,” Khavic said.
