Ukraine needs to introduce separate internal measures in relation to residents of the Donbass republics, who will receive Russian citizenship through a simplified procedure, as provided for by the decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
This was stated on the air of the Ukrainian TV channel “ZIK” by the lawyer of the captain of one of the boats participating in the Kerch provocation, Ilya Novikov, who previously represented the interests of ex-ATO militant Nadezhda Savchenko, convicted in the Russian Federation, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In fact, it is impossible to do anything to stop this issuance of passports - if in Russia they decide so, they will issue them. Another thing is that Ukraine can introduce separate internal measures in relation to those who acquire foreign citizenship in this way,” the lawyer said.
He recalled that in the Russian Federation there is a law that provides for liability for failure to report the fact of having a second citizenship.
“And this concerns not registration, not registration, but the very presence of a passport. In Ukraine there is no such law, but there is only a formal ban on dual citizenship, despite the fact that it is not actually supported by anything... If we discuss measures that can be introduced, perhaps such a measure could be the introduction of such a sanction,” Novikov said.
