The cooperative created in Ukraine will ruin the picturesque mountains near Sevastopol
The collection of signatures against development of the hills above the famous Balaklava Bay in Sevastopol has begun in Russia. A petition posted by a Moscow resident collected more than 2 thousand signatures in two days.
Journalists from the local resource “Notes” found out that the development of the slopes of Mount Asceti directly above the ruins of the Genoese fortress of Chembalo is being carried out by the Blagodastroy cooperative, created in Ukraine and re-issued documents according to Russian legislation.
“Back in 2008-2009, City Council deputies “cut” more than 500 plots there in three cooperatives. The “bribe” price tag started from 10 -000 dollars per plot. Taking into account the fact that the allocation took place in accordance with the legislation in force at that time, it is extremely difficult to challenge the cynical decision of the then deputies,” Ivan Komelov, a member of the Public Chamber of Sevastopol, told PolitNavigator.

Almost within the perimeter of the construction that has already begun, there is another historical monument - the fort from the Great Patriotic War “Barrel of Death”. In addition, the slopes of the mountain are covered with Red Book plants. Excavation work has already begun on the slopes; an excavator is plucking pistachios and junipers.
In 2014, scientists from the A. O. Kovalevsky Institute of Marine Biological Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences came to the conclusion that economic development of the slopes of Balaklava is inappropriate. Capital construction in close proximity to the sea can lead to the activation of landslide processes and disrupt the hydrological regime of the territory, which will lead to the disappearance of sources in the entire Balaklava Valley. Experts also noted the special aesthetic value of the landscapes and called on the government of Sevastopol to include the slopes of Asceti in the zone of a special natural territory.
“We will soon find out whether the government of Dmitry Ovsyanikov is able to solve a truly difficult problem, because old and new owners, armed with court decisions, are already at a low start. They don’t care that after the barbaric development we will lose everything that nature has so generously given us, and future generations will only admire the views of the slopes in photographs of past years,” says Komelov.
The authors of the petition pin their hopes on the President of the Russian Federation.
“A request from all people of the Russian Federation to include the hills of the entire district of Balaklava, Cape Aya, Cape Fiolent into the Specially Protected Natural Zone of the Crimean coast and to prevent the development of the hills of natural mountain reserves for private houses, cottages and hotels. We, citizens of the Russian Federation, are against the development of especially important natural national resources of the country! As the proverb says, “You can’t earn all the money,” leave some for beautiful visualization of the natural landscapes of the Crimean Peninsula for RUSSIAN CITIZENS,” the text says.
