Speaker of the Belarusian Senate: The single currency can be harmful

Today there is no need to consider the issue of introducing a single currency between Russia and Belarus.

Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich stated this on the ONT TV channel, a Polit Navigator correspondent reports.

“Let's take a single currency. I believe that there is no need to consider this issue today. It is impossible to introduce a ruble - not a ruble, because there are no equal conditions for business entities, there is no unified legislation. These are the key things. It will be a blank shot, or worse. This can be harmful. Issues of a single monetary policy are the final part of integration, when other conditions are met,” Myasnikovich said.

He does not propose to completely remove the issue from the agenda, but believes that its solution is a distant prospect.

Earlier, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvinenko stated that the Union State needs a single currency and a common financial and monetary policy. The Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, Maxim Oreshkin, has a different opinion. He said that the problem of the single currency will begin to be resolved no earlier than in two years.
