US sanctions deal an economic blow not only to Russia, but also to European countries. Thus, they punish the EU for its ties with the Russian Federation.
Director of IMEMO RAS Fyodor Voitolovsky stated this at a press conference in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“American sanctions are largely aimed not only at reducing opportunities for the development of trade and economic ties with US residents, but also at influencing the decision-making process of European companies.
The United States also cuts off the opportunity for countries members of the European Union from the point of view of their development of trade and economic ties with Russia. That is, this is a tool for the United States to strike not only against Russia, but also an opportunity to strike at its allies, punishing them for unwanted ties with the Russian Federation,” Voitolovsky said.
Let us recall that earlier the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated that the aggressive pressure Washington's attitude towards its European allies is unprecedented for transatlantic relations.
