The visit of the US Navy destroyer Donald Cook to Odessa indicates that the Americans do not intend to support the adventures of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in the Kerch Strait.
Ukrainian political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky stated this on the YouTube channel “Glavnovosti”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“This gesture means some kind of compensation for his fantastic ideas about how to break through the Kerch Strait together with NATO and representatives of God knows what. He was clearly made to understand that this idea was not supported. And, to sweeten the pill and show that the United States does not agree with Russia’s claims to a leading role in the Black Sea-Azov basin, they sent “Donald Cook” here,” Pogrebinsky said.
He does not believe that the visit of the American destroyer and Poroshenko’s meeting on board with State Department Special Representative Kurt Volker will contribute to the growth of the current president’s electoral rating.
“I don’t think a large number of Ukrainians are happy that their president is on a foreign power’s warship licking a minor official,” Pogrebinsky said.
