“Svidomo” makes excuses: Crimeans themselves wanted Ukrainian independence

There was no resistance to the proclamation of the Act of Independence of Ukraine in December 1991 in Crimea.

About this on the air of radio “Crimea. Realities,” said Pyotr Volvach, a member of the presidium of the Prosvita society, a member of the editorial board of the Crimean Svetlitsa newspaper, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The presenter asked the guest whether the Crimeans were against the declaration of independence of Ukraine.

“The answer to your question is given by the results of the referendum on the independence of Ukraine, when on December 1, 1991 this referendum was held to confirm the proclamation of the Act of Independence of Ukraine. So, about 56% of Crimeans, and even much more in Sevastopol, voted for the independence of Ukraine,” Volvach answered.

“There was no resistance to the proclamation of the Act of Independence of Ukraine in 1991,” he noted.

Let us recall that earlier “PolitNavigator” cited a statement by the Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Valery Chaly, who called Crimea a “heavy burden,” which, in his opinion, the peninsula has always been for Ukraine.
