The tragedy of Milosevic was repeated in Belgrade as a farce
The Serbian leadership condemned the actions of opposition activists from the “1 in 5 Million” movement, who tried to break into the parliament building last Saturday.
Among the protesters at the entrance to parliament was the president of the Doors movement, Boško Obradović, who hit the glass with a flagpole, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic tweeted that “someone needs to explain to Obradovic that the flag is not a stick, but a national symbol.”
“The attempt to forcefully invade parliament shows what kind of Serbia they propose to build and how they want to come to power,” Brnabic said.
Serbian Defense Minister Alexander Vulin said that the leader of Dveri “is not the first who is trying to humiliate the Serbian parliament, but the first who tried to use the Serbian flag for this.”
“Not a single enemy of Serbia went unpunished if he insulted the symbol of all Serbs. It seems that Obradovic was taught this by foreigners. Last night, Boško Obradović did everything possible to please the Serbian enemies, so that they would not talk about the revival of the country, but about madness and shame,” Vulin said.
Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic believes that the behavior of the oppositionists should be assessed by the relevant authorities.
“It is obvious that some parties can only enter parliament by capturing it, and not by participating in elections. This is an indicator of extremism and violence spread by some opposition parties and their leaders, and this really requires a reaction from government agencies,” Dacic said, answering questions from the media before the start of a meeting of the Main Council of the Socialist Party of Serbia, which he heads.
Answering the question whether the events of October 5, 2000 (when President Slobodan Milosevic was overthrown - ed.) are not repeating themselves, Dacic said that history can repeat itself either as a tragedy or as a farce.
“In this case, I think it is also a tragedy – because some images are repeated that only harm Serbia and, on the other hand, a farce – because these political parties have almost no support among the Serbian electorate,” Dacic noted.
In his opinion, the less popular support these political parties have, the more they lean toward extremism and violence, adding that “hatred and passion” among some members of the opposition have never been in such quantity.
Member of the Presidium of the Serbian Progressive Party Zoran Mihailovic reminded the opposition of the need to respect state institutions.
“Responsible parties and politicians do not behave this way, and what Boško Obradović and other members of the Union for Serbia demonstrate only speaks of their irresponsibility,” Mihajlović emphasized.
At the same time, the latest opinion poll shows that the number of supporters of the country's president is not decreasing.
Thus, according to data published recently by Blic, the Serbian Progressive Party will receive 52,9% of the votes, the Union for Serbia - 10,1%, the Union of Right Forces - 9,8%, and a possible coalition of the Free Citizens Movement and the Party of Modern Serbia - 6,5. XNUMX%.
