Turchynov is trying to get rid of the stigma of a politician who shamefully surrendered Crimea
One of the main “hawks” of Ukrainian politics, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov is trying to remind people of himself with populist statements.

Ukrainian military expert Oleg Zhdanov writes about this in an author’s column published by the Kyiv online publication “Apostrophe”, explaining Turchynov’s motives, who announced yesterday about the need to end the ATO and move to a new format of “war with Russia.”
“Turchinov bears the stamp of the politician who surrendered Crimea. In order to justify himself, he periodically makes loud statements. The statement that the country needs to be protected differently is political PR, the purpose of which is to remind oneself,” the expert believes.
“The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko clearly monitors the political horizon and has extinguished all the stars around him. We are even asked the following question: “If there are re-elections, then who? But there is no one.” Therefore, Turchynov, in order not to sink into oblivion, as happened with Arseniy Yatsenyuk, periodically says the right things. And now he said that the ATO has outlived its usefulness and the format needs to be changed. There are two formats that can be changed to: surrender, recognizing the special status of the territories, and give an amnesty to the militants, or transfer the ATO to the category of war with the Russian Federation. Neither one nor the other is realistic - society will not accept it. Therefore, I believe that this is a purely populist statement, the purpose of which is an attempt to remind oneself,” Zhdanov sums up.
