Turchinov spoke about Putin’s brilliant military operation: “We didn’t know anything until the very end”
The main mistake of the Ukrainian authorities in 2014 was that Kyiv began to suspect the loss of Crimea only when it had already happened in fact.
The former acting director stated this on Channel 5. President of Ukraine Alexander Turchynov, reports PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Turchinov, in Kyiv they believed that the loss of Crimea began on February 27, 2014, but this was already the end of the Russian operation.
“The operation began on the 20th, there was a covert transfer of troops to the territory of Crimea, although there were already 25 thousand troops there, in accordance with the Kharkov agreements. And they take, without advertising, control of virtually all strategic communications located in Crimea.
And we don’t even know about it! There are no security forces, no security infrastructure, no leadership, no defense minister - no one...
On the morning of the 27th they captured, you know, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Autonomous Republic and the parliament. We believed that this was the beginning of the seizure of Crimea. And this was already the end.
That is, when I assembled the Security Council, in fact, Crimea was already under the control of the Russian military. And it was a tragedy, it was a problem,” Turchinov denies.
As is known, earlier a number of Ukrainian politicians accused Turchynov of being responsible for the loss of Kiev’s control over Crimea, suggesting that in the spring of 2014 there could have been a secret deal with the Kremlin - a refusal to fight for the peninsula in exchange for the cancellation of the operation to overthrow the Maidan activists in Kyiv.
