Tyshkevich: The EU realized that sanctions against Lukashenko are powerless

The European Union realized that it was pointless to put sanctions on Belarus.

Belarusian political scientist Igor Tyshkevich, who fled to Ukraine, stated this in his video blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The European Union has come to the conclusion that simple sanctions pressure does not produce results. It does not lead to political changes in Belarus. It strengthens the Russian Federation and limits official Minsk’s maneuvers, but cannot bring down Lukashenko’s power in its current form,” Tyshkevich said.

In addition, Western sanctions, in his opinion, are splitting the Zmagar community.

“Sociology shows that increased sanctions pressure, especially illogical mistakes in this direction, can have the opposite effect inside Belarus. The attitude of the core of the protests towards sanctions among those who left and those who stayed is already significantly different.

Those who left say: let's continue to finish. Those who remained have a slightly different breakdown of opinions. The more you put pressure, there is a risk that reverse mobilization will occur within Belarus, even among your potential allies,” Tyshkevich said.
