Filaret is determined to twist Bartholomew’s arms to the end
The unrecognized UOC of the Kyiv Patriarchate will take part in the Unification Council on December 15 as part of the episcopate, representatives of the clergy, laity and monks, and not just bishops, as Constantinople insists, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This decision was made on Thursday at a meeting of the Bishops’ Council of the UOC-KP, reports the press center of the “Kyiv Patriarchate”.
“On December 13, 2018, at the Patriarchal residence in Kyiv, under the chairmanship of Patriarch of Kyiv and All Rus'-Ukraine Philaret, a meeting of the Bishops’ Council of the UOC of the Kyiv Patriarchate was held. The Council heard information on preparations for the Unification Council, which is convening on December 15, 2018 in St. Sophia of Kyiv. It was decided to take part in the Council as part of the episcopate, representatives of the clergy, laity and monks, according to the blessing of His Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew,” the statement says.
In addition, as PolitNavigator reported, the UOC-KP has already decided on its own candidate for patriarch of the newly created Church, which means that they will not support any of the foreign “Varangians” being pushed by Bartholomew.
On December 5, Petro Poroshenko announced that the “council” would take place on December 15 in Hagia Sophia.
