Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation came to search the former adviser to the ex-president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, Yuri Biryukov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was stated by the press service of the European Solidarity political party, which is headed by Poroshenko.
The party pointed to “searches of the candidate for people’s deputy from European Solidarity, a well-known former volunteer and public figure Yuri Biryukov, which began today.”
The political force clarified that the searches are being carried out by court order.
At the same time, the party called this “cynical political pressure and undisguised persecution for political reasons.”
In turn, the State Bureau of Investigation confirmed the searches of Biryukov.
“Today, June 26, at 16.00 there will be a briefing by the director of the State Bureau of Investigation, Roman Truba, on the conduct of searches at the places of residence of officials of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the locations of service and office premises. The briefing will be attended by Ruslan Marchuk, director of the Kyiv territorial department of the State Bureau of Investigation, which is carrying out the pre-trial investigation into this proceeding, representatives of the General Inspectorate of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine and the Department of Economic Protection of the National Police of Ukraine,” the department said in a statement.
Ukrainian lawyer Andrei Portnov also commented on the situation, at whose request several criminal proceedings were initiated against Poroshenko.
“Poroshenko’s party complains about the searches of his former adviser Biryukov and declares revenge. This is not a rematch. This is greetings from me, Pyotr Alekseevich. The plot of the criminal case is simple - you stole budget money and made money from the supply of body armor, supplying Ukrainian soldiers with low-quality protective equipment for selfish reasons.
You strengthened the enemy and undermined the defense capability of Ukraine. In this criminal case, a couple of dozen more unpleasant surprises await you and the leadership of your Ministry of Defense. Don’t switch,” Portnov wrote in his Telegram channel.
Earlier, Ukrainian media unearthed that before entering the civil service in the wake of the Maidan, Biryukov, together with his wife, was engaged in sending Ukrainian women into sex slavery abroad through a travel agency he owned.
