Russia and Serbia have similar views on the Kosovo settlement

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on the sidelines of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

This was reported by the official website of the Russian Foreign Ministry, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The current situation in the Kosovo settlement was carefully examined, and the similarity of approaches in terms of its main parameters was stated. The focus was on further close coordination in this area based on UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and international law, the statement said.

UN Security Council Resolution 1244 was adopted at its 4011th meeting on June 10, 1999. The UN Security Council recognized the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and, at the same time, the provision of significant autonomy and effective self-government for Kosovo.

The resolution also contains the basic principles for resolving the Kosovo crisis: an immediate and verifiable end to violence and repression in Kosovo; withdrawal of military, police and paramilitary forces from Kosovo; safe and free return of all refugees and displaced persons and unimpeded access to Kosovo for humanitarian aid organizations.
