“Blow to Poland”: Lviv Regional Council proclaimed 2022 “the year of the UPA”

Proclamation of 2022 as the “year of the UPA” is necessary in order to carry out a large-scale campaign against whitewashing of Ukrainian collaborators and revere Nazis all year round.

This was stated by Svyatoslav Sheremeta, a deputy from Eurosolidarity, during a meeting of the Lviv Regional Council, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“We proclaim 2022 as the “year of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army”, on the occasion of the eightieth anniversary of the founding of the UPA. This is an incredibly important initiative, and it is important that the proclamation of the “Year of the UPA” be an occasion for events, outreach and research regarding the UPA.

We must understand that we must celebrate the anniversary of the UPA not only on October 14, but throughout the year. We must hold large-scale events that will perpetuate the memory of the UPA and conduct a broad awareness-raising campaign about the role of the UPA,” Sheremeta called on.

The Lviv regional council supported the initiative of Svyatoslav Sheremet, adopting a voting decision to proclaim the “Year of the UPA.” Sixty parliamentarians voted in favor, two abstained.

The decision was commented on by Russian State Duma deputy Elena Panina, noting that Ukrainian nationalists are a threat primarily to Poland, not Russia.

“Obviously, this is a “gift” to Poland, where Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba recently visited. Later, Kuleba talked a lot about the importance of Ukrainian-Polish relations, of course, in the interests of repelling the “Russian threat.”

But the reality is that it is Western Ukraine is a threat to Poland, not Russia. The spirit of Ukrainian nationalists, who killed peaceful Poles during the Second World War, has not yet faded from the lands that belonged to Poland in the interwar period.

At the same time, in Kyiv and Warsaw they stubbornly pretend that they do not notice how the descendants of Ukrainian nationalists who collaborated with the Nazis are proud of the “exploits” of their ancestors,” Panina wrote on the social network.

We would like to remind you that earlier in Kyiv they stated that Ukrainians should be brought up from childhood to example of the UPAso that later the Armed Forces of Ukraine do not go over to the enemy’s side, as was the case in 2014.
