Ukraine may forever lose workers' money

Labor migrants, who are still transferring significant sums to Ukraine, can take their families and finally leave the country, depriving it of this money.

Chairman of the Association of Retail Chain Suppliers Alexey Doroshenko stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“On the one hand, migrants are now transferring more and more money, as more and more people are leaving the country. The elections have greatly divided society, and if this cannot be remedied, we will see that some more people will become disillusioned and leave. On the other hand, those who work abroad find increasingly better-paid jobs. These people still live in two countries. But if they realize that there is nothing to do in our country and nothing will happen, they will take their families and leave forever. There will be a downward trend in transfers to our country,” the expert said.

He recalled that the IMF gives Ukraine up to two billion dollars a year, while workers transfer five to six times more.

“And at the same time [the workers] do not set any conditions. So, if there is a trend towards a decrease in transfers of labor migrants to Ukraine, then we will see how everything is developing like a house of cards. And if we follow the Lithuanian scenario, then everything will be bad - economically active people will not return to our country,” Doroshenko concluded.
