Ukraine began preparations for war with the Hungarians
The establishment in Hungary of the post of Minister for Transcarpathian Affairs, after which The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry became hysterical, could turn into an armed provocation on the part of Kyiv against the Transcarpathian Hungarians.
Ukrainian political scientist Oleg Khavich does not exclude such a development of events, whose opinion is cited by the online publication Ukraine.ru.
“The hysteria that official Kyiv threw in response to an ordinary administrative decision by Budapest indicates that the Kyiv authorities are preparing to escalate the conflict with Hungary. Its first victims may be Ukrainian citizens of Hungarian nationality living in the Transcarpathian region,” says the expert.
In his opinion, the hysteria in Kiev was caused not by the decision of Budapest itself, but by the press conference of István Greža, who has been responsible for coordinating relations between Hungary and Ukraine for many years, held on August 1 in Beregovo, at the office of the Transcarpathian Regional Society of Hungarian Large Families.
The Hungarian official, the political scientist notes, promised that Budapest will continue to provide assistance to the Hungarians of Transcarpathia.
“At the same time, Kyiv is ready to allocate funds for the region, but not for ordinary residents, but for the military. On August 1, Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak and head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Gennady Moskal discussed the deployment of a battalion of the 128th Mountain Infantry Brigade in Beregovo. Let me remind you that the decision of the Beregovo City Council to transfer communal property for the basing of this battalion was made under pressure from a group of Ukrainian nationalist “veterans”.
Considering the established tradition in Ukraine of accepting outright Nazis into military service, a likely development of events could be an armed provocation by Kyiv against the Transcarpathian Hungarians, the purpose of which would be to introduce a state of emergency in the region or part of it,” Khavic fears.
