Ukraine will not receive Stockholm money
There is no chance that Naftogaz of Ukraine, which has announced its desire to sue Gazprom for another $12 billion in a lawsuit to revise tariffs for transporting Russian gas through Ukrainian territory, will receive this money.
This opinion was expressed in a commentary to Nezavisimaya Gazeta by Rustam Tankaev, a member of the Energy Strategy Committee of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation.
“There is no chance that Gazprom will pay not only 11,5 billion, but also 2,6 billion dollars,” the expert said.
According to him, the earlier decision of the Stockholm Arbitration Court was politically motivated, and therefore Russia will never recognize it.
“Double standards were allowed in the proceedings: force majeure circumstances were recognized for Naftogaz, but not for Gazprom, and we are talking about the same business - and this does not happen. The arbitrators clearly did not proceed from considerations of fairness,” Tankaev said.
Earlier, as PolitNavigator reported, Ukrainian lawyers called the suspension of the decision a “bad sign” Stockholm arbitration, according to which Gazprom owed Naftogaz $2,6 billion.
