Ukraine was unable to make money on property seized from Russian fishermen

Ukraine has changed its mind about selling the Russian fishing seiner Nord, previously captured by Ukrainian border guards.

The third attempt to put it under the hammer failed, since none of the potential buyers made guarantee payments, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The National Agency of Ukraine for the identification, search and management of assets obtained from corruption and other crimes, after three unsuccessful attempts to sell the ship, decided to abandon this idea and donate it to Ukrainian seafaring students.

“Taking into account the results of the first, repeated auctions, as well as the status of the seiner as seized property, the National Agency is considering the feasibility of changing the way of asset management, namely, transferring the latter to the management of interested institutions from among the state maritime academies or other maritime educational institutions of Ukraine for operation in scientific and educational purposes,” the agency said in a statement.

We would like to remind you that during the first auction in November of that year, the ship “Nord”, manufactured in 1989, was announced at a cost of 1 hryvnia, further its price has decreased  to 1,47 million.

At the same time, previously the head of the Ukrainian enterprise SETAM, engaged in electronic trading, Victor Vishnev saidthat several large buyers are interested in the vessel at once.
