Ukraine has lost importance for the United States as an economic partner

The US’s bet on Ukraine as a “showcase” for post-Soviet countries and an example to follow has failed - no matter how much the West pours money into its support and reforms, it has no effect.

Vladimir Vasiliev, chief researcher at the Institute of the USA and Canada, stated this in a commentary to Komsomolskaya Pravda, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

According to the expert, the United States had high hopes for Ukraine - this country could become a role model for the CIS countries, but the project failed.

“Perhaps in 2014 the United States believed that some reforms would begin in Ukraine, that it would move towards Europe and over time would meet EU and NATO standards. It will turn into something like Poland or the Czech Republic, but the last 6-7 years have convinced the States that it is useless to engage in economic and political reforms in Ukraine.

This is a black hole - no matter how much money you invest, nothing worthwhile will come of it. Ukraine has lost its value as an economic partner,” Vasilyev said.

The expert also believes that despite this, the United States does not let Ukraine go and makes it clear that support remains even after the change of power in the United States.
