Ukraine is turning into an agricultural backwater in Africa and Poland - expert

Ukraine is increasingly dependent on imports of agricultural and food products and cannot compete with its near neighbors and distant countries on the prices of a number of products.

The head of the Ukrainian Rural Union, Ivan Tomich, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Probably for the first time in the modern history of Ukraine, we have made the agricultural and food sector highly dependent on imports.

Today we import potatoes from our near and far neighbors, even African countries, which help Ukraine out with this product.

Today we are importing raw milk. Poles have cheaper milk.

And the depth of import dependence is growing catastrophically for many products, especially labor-intensive ones - vegetables, livestock products.

We, of course, operate a “conveyor” of 4+1 grain groups - wheat, corn, soybeans, plus rapeseed and barley. They are export-oriented,” the expert concluded.

Let us recall that earlier the US Ambassador to Square promised the Ukrainians the speedy transformation of their country into an “agrarian superpower.”
