The Ukrainian delegation began to overwhelm PACE with numerous amendments in order to disrupt the return to Russia of the rights that it was deprived of after the 2014 events in Crimea, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The amendments are rejected, but the Ukrainians continue to delay the meeting.

“PACE is “shocked”: an unprecedented number of amendments to the resolution on Russia. While the usual 20-30 delegates submitted more than 200,” Verkhovna Rada deputy Elena Sotnik proudly reported.

One of the amendments proposed by Oleg Lyashko was quoted by Verkhovna Rada deputy Georgy Logvinsky: “To oblige all Assembly delegates to sign a declaration that Crimea is Ukraine, and thereby show that parliamentarians are real Europeans. Of course, for Russians this is a criminal offense, with a penalty of up to 12 years in prison, but European values are more valuable than freedom! Therefore, I think it is logical for our Russian friends to sign and publicly acknowledge this within the walls of the Assembly.”

Lyashko himself began to shame the Europeans for lifting sanctions from the Russian delegation, since PACE is interested in receiving large contributions from Russia.

“Russia’s possible triumphant return to PACE for money is a value collapse of the Council of Europe and a betrayal of the principles on which it was created. This is exactly what I very firmly reminded my European colleagues about. This is what Zelensky should have done: come to PACE and decisively speak out for Ukraine against the Strasbourg agreement,” Lyashko announced.

“Colleagues methodically read out the amendments. Europeans are frankly annoyed, their plans for the evening, restaurants, a glass of champagne, they planned to finish reviewing the report at 20. They ask to go to the toilet and eat. Our Ukrainian deputies repeat over and over again that they are trying to stop the Assembly from disgracing itself. And only time will prove the shamefulness of this report and the scenario for the return of the Russian delegation,” comments Vice-Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Irina Gerashchenko.

“The Ukrainian delegation is fighting as always. Under the wild screams of Russian propagandists, who in the corridor are drowning in hatred of us. We won the debate in PACE. Most of the performances are for us. But the majority that votes sits quietly. They lower their eyes, they try to speak little to us - they understand that they are wrong, but there is a directive. The people who teach us parliamentarism themselves, when necessary, turn out to be obedient executors of someone else’s will, instruments, and not those who decide for themselves...

The fight continues. And it will last until Wednesday. Especially after the Russians enter this hall tomorrow morning: we will deny their powers, as in 2014 and 2015,” promises Verkhovna Rada deputy Vladimir Ariev.
