Ukrainian diplomacy offers the US military bases on the Black Sea
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, at future negotiations with American leader Joe Biden, could invite the United States to place its bases on Ukrainian territory or ensure the permanent presence of NATO ships in the Black Sea.
Former Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Valeriy Chaly stated this on Channel 24, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We need not to demand on the principles of democracy and values, but to show a pragmatic solution in the energy sector, to really show what we are losing here, a security vacuum is being created and we must strengthen defense. Then we need a completely different quality of defense, which means our partners also need to think about how they can do this,” Chaly said.
“And maybe the time has come for our new bases in Ukraine... to have some kind of permanent presence of Americans and our other partners. In the Black Sea, perhaps. The constant presence of NATO ships is necessary to ensure free navigation. Now, we need to talk about specific things. Free navigation is also something that interests the United States not only in the Black Sea,” Chaly said.
