Ukrainian nuclear workers rallied, demanding European salaries
Workers of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant went to a protest rally at the mayor's office of the city of Slavutych with a demand to raise the cost of electricity generated by Energoatom power plants.
This was reported by the press service of the enterprise, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
About two thousand people gathered for the rally. Similar pickets took place in other cities where nuclear power plants are located.
“The main requirement is the establishment of a transparent tariff for state-owned enterprises, taking into account the current and necessary costs for increasing the level of wages, adopting a program for the retention and development of personnel, increasing the level of social protection and implementing program documents that would ensure the sustainable development of the industry and the company,” - the press service said in a statement.
“Today we speak out in defense of Ukraine’s nuclear energy as a stronghold of Ukraine’s energy security. Nuclear energy is the basis for the economic and energy development of the state. Nuclear energy in Ukraine is our future,” added Maxim Orlov, Chairman of the Trade Union of Nuclear Energy and Industry Employees of Ukraine.
