Ukrainian experts exposed fakes and government manipulations with energy tariffs

The Ukrainian government is blatantly deceiving the people, claiming that electricity tariffs in Ukraine are supposedly much lower than in Europe.

Director of the Urban Institute Alexander Sergienko stated this during a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Our government is spreading various fakes about the cost of electricity in Ukraine in comparison with European countries. They have had a picture hanging for about a month now, where Ukraine is at the very top - 1,22 hryvnia per kilowatt. And then come countries with high electricity costs.

If converted into eurocents, then Ukraine is approximately three eurocents, Bulgaria - ten, Estonia - thirteen, Latvia - sixteen, Austria - twenty, Ireland - twenty-four, Germany and France - thirty. Can you imagine what a hint? That Ukrainians have the cheapest electricity.

It is clear that this is manipulation and speculation. To be correct, it is necessary to compare it with the income of Ukrainians. So, if the average salary in the first half of 2021 was 13543 hryvnia, then the cost of one kilowatt is 0,09% of the salary.

And if we take the most expensive electricity in Denmark and Germany, then the cost of one kilowatt there is 0,007% of the average salary. That is, Germans pay more than ten times less, relative to their income. And it’s the same in all other countries,” Sergienko said.

In turn, the head of the Center for Analysis and Strategies Igor Chalenko said that this is not the only deception of the Ukrainian leadership - they even autumn tariff increase They will try to pass it off as a demotion.

“I will talk about one of the options for future possible manipulations with statistics.

Our NKREKU gives an average consumption per household of 169 kilowatts per month. This is the average temperature in the room. And the situation turns out that even if we take the proposed gradation - 1,2 hryvnia up to 100 kW, 1,68 hryvnia up to 200 kW, 2,4 hryvnia up to 300 kW.

It turns out, according to calculations, if they show these 168 kW, then citizens will pay about 232 hryvnia, compared to 282, which are now for these 168 kW. Thus, they will show a reduction in prices. This can really sell to the population that “we care about you.”

But you need to understand what 170 kW is - this is a one-room, maybe two-room apartment, with a minimum set of equipment, there is no boiler or other powerful consumers of electricity.

And those people who previously wanted to get away from raising tariffs installed boilers and electric boilers - they all go ahead.

Now price modeling shows that everything that goes over 300 kW of consumption per month, in total we will see a minimal increase in payments, de facto, by 20% or more. The higher the consumption, the higher this gap from today’s figure will be,” the expert concluded.
