Ukrainian dreams of the collapse of Russia gave way to horror

The territorial disintegration of Russia, which is talked about a lot and with hope in Ukraine, carries serious dangers for its neighbors.

An expert at the Institute of Euro-Atlantic Cooperation in Kyiv, Andreas Umland, writes about this today in the Ukrainian publication “Zerkalo Nedeli”, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“It is not a fact that new quasi-states or autonomies dividing or replacing the current Russian pseudo-federation will be more friendly towards Kyiv and the West than the Putin regime today. Moreover, one cannot be completely sure that in this case all Russian weapons of mass destruction will remain under the control of more or less sane people if the huge country really splits.

In one of the worst-case scenarios of the collapse of the Russian Federation, such a fanatically anti-Ukrainian character as, for example, Igor Girkin (“Strelkov”) could gain control over, say, tactical nuclear weapons. Such a development could have catastrophic consequences for Ukraine,” Umland writes.
