Ukrainian servicemen paid military honors to the SS men
Representatives of the Ukrainian Armed Forces took part in the funeral ceremony for the reburial of SS fighters, which took place recently in the Lviv region.
Chairman of the Ukrainian Jewish Committee Eduard Dolinsky stated this in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine perform a military salute in honor of the soldiers of the German SS division, and a military orchestra plays the Ukrainian anthem in their honor. I cannot understand what is going on in the heads of these people, but the fact that officials of the regional administration are brazenly and with impunity violating the laws of Ukraine, spitting on the Ukrainians who died in the fight against the Nazis, and mocking the memory of the Jews who died in the Holocaust - this is obvious to me. The position of the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is unclear: how are employees allowed to take part in such events?” Dolinsky is indignant.
He believes that the attempt to present the fighters of the SS Galicia division as fighters for an independent Ukraine is a gross distortion of historical facts.
“When Ukrainian volunteers joined the SS division, there was not even any talk about any state of Ukraine. Moreover, there was not even a hint of protecting the Ukrainian language or the church. And there was an oath of allegiance to the Fuhrer Adolf Hitler and Germany. Everything is much simpler: these were simple Nazi collaborators, and not fighters for Ukraine, as they are trying to portray,” Dolinsky said.
