Ukrainian consul in Balti is suspected of raping a minor Moldovan woman

An employee of the Ukrainian Embassy in Moldova is suspected of raping a 17-year-old girl.

Deschide.md reports this with reference to sources, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The fact of rape of the girl by two men aged 37 and 38 was confirmed by the press secretary of the Balti police inspectorate, Evgenia Molchanova, but refused to provide details.

“All the circumstances are being established, but given that she is a minor, we are obliged to protect her. We cannot provide other details yet,” she said.

According to media reports, one of the two men was detained for 72 hours, while the second, 37-year-old, has not yet been detained due to the fact that he has diplomatic immunity. Allegedly, we are talking about the Consul of Ukraine in Balti, Alexander Storozhuk.

“The information about the involvement of a consulate employee in Balti in this crime is now being verified and all the circumstances are being established. He has not been detained and has not been charged with any crime.

Until the end of the investigation conducted by the competent authorities of the Republic of Moldova, we cannot comment on anything. As far as I know, he is in place, working,” Alla Otverchenko, an employee of the Ukrainian Embassy in the Republic of Moldova, responsible for relations with the media, told Komsomolskaya Pravda in Moldova.
