Western politicians and officials are frightening Russia with a “high price” for invading Ukraine, but the Kremlin may decide that such a price is acceptable for an important region.
Kiev political scientist Ruslan Bortnik said this on air on the 112 Ukraine TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“NATO and Western countries in general do not behave honestly in the security sphere. Listen to what they say - that "the cost of an invasion of Ukraine for Russia will be high" Does anything in this statement bother you? The word "price".

When the US wants to protect a particular country, it enters into a defense agreement with it. Outside NATO, there is such a defense agreement with Japan and South Korea. But we don’t see such an approach to Ukraine,” the Ukrainian expert complained.
Bortnik fears that Russia will be able to afford to pay such a “price” for the return of Ukraine to its sphere of influence.
“Russia says: “You'll pay a big price" Russia sits, counts on a calculator, and may decide that the price is acceptable for it. Or what are they talking about now? Are they haggling over this price?
The rhetoric should be different: “If you invade Ukraine, which we consider our partner, you will deal with us" We stopped feeling these accents.
And then some analyst comes out and says: “Invasion of Ukraine, disconnection from SWIFT costs forty billion dollars" Considering that Russia's gold and foreign exchange reserves are $614 billion, this is not a very prohibitive price.
This is a consequence of the dishonest, non-partner, exploitative policy of the West towards Ukraine,” the political scientist concluded.
