Even under the conditions of a total ban on Russian media, Kyiv journalists often access “forbidden” Internet resources and use Russian news sources. This poses a threat because it helps Russia shape the Ukrainians’ worldview.
Lydia Smola, a professor at the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kiev Polytechnic Institute”, spoke at a press conference in Kyiv today, reports PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Unfortunately, some media use Russian sources for information. I specifically looked - even on events in Kazakhstan - information on how power is changing in Kazakhstan and there were links to Russian RIA Novosti, Russian Interfax. That is, the source of information for Ukrainian media was Russian media.
There were different accents, but no links to CNN, BBC or any other English-language sources. This is an aspect of Russia's ability to shape our picture of the world.
Our journalists do not know how to take sources other than those that can present everything very quickly. And these sources may contain “Trojan horses,” warns Professor Smola.
