The outgoing President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko announced measures to strengthen the defense capability of the State Border Service of Ukraine through 22 patrol boats and 24 patrol helicopters, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Poroshenko’s official website reports this.
“This year we expect to conclude contracts for the construction of 22 modern ships. These ships will be of the patrol class and will reliably carry out assigned tasks to protect the maritime border,” Poroshenko said, speaking on the occasion of Border Guard Day in Cherkassy at the Main Training Center for Personnel of the State Border Service.
Also, according to him, a task has been set for the purchase of helicopters of French and Ukrainian production. “This and next year, 24 modern, light patrol helicopters will be purchased,” the head of state informed.
Poroshenko stressed that Ukraine is confidently forming the European face of the border service. “We are confidently shaping the European face of the border service, ensuring its ability to operate effectively according to NATO standards,” the president said.
