“An ugly combination” – a Russian expert about the “new” Ukrainian warship
Ukraine has begun the second stage of testing the Laguna medium reconnaissance ship, built on the basis of the hull of the Project 502EM fishing trawler according to the Soviet design of the 70s.
This was reported by the "Defense-Industrial Courier", a correspondent of "PolitNavigator" reports.
In just under 40 years, from 1971 to 2009, Ukraine built 347 trawlers of this project and five more hulls remained mothballed. One of them was completed at the Kuznya na Rybalsky plant, affiliated with ex-president Petro Poroshenko, and turned into the Laguna SRK.
“The ship is equipped with the latest Ukrainian electronic intelligence station Melchior, which operates exclusively in passive radar mode, analyzing the radio frequency spectrum emitted by ships, aircraft or coastal objects. The complex consists of an antenna post and two operator workstations. "Melchior" was developed on the basis of the ship's multifunctional radar complex "Mineral", which was produced in various modifications by the Ukrainian enterprise "Kvant" since Soviet times," the statement says.
The commissioning of the so-called reconnaissance ship “Laguna” into the Ukrainian Navy once again proves the collapse of Ukrainian military shipbuilding. An expert at the Institute of CIS Countries, captain XNUMXst rank Sergei Gorbachev told PolitNavigator about this in a commentary.
“This so-called reconnaissance ship is an ugly combination of what Soviet Ukraine had in terms of fisheries shipbuilding and the ambitions that Kyiv has for its naval forces. Of course, will this ship float or sail, but from the point of view of modern radio-electronic equipment, this is a big question. This is a phenomenal ship, indicating the complete collapse of Ukrainian shipbuilding. Both military and shipbuilding as an industry in general,” the expert noted.
Gorbachev also emphasized that over the years of its independence, Ukraine has not been able to build a single modern ship, limiting itself only to the completion of Soviet projects.
“During all the years of Independence, Ukrainian industry has not been able to build anything meaningful. Those ships that were put into operation before, in this case we are talking about the control ship "Slavutich", which has been hanging out at the pier in Sevastopol for the seventh year - it was completed in 92 and was intended for the USSR Navy as a reconnaissance ship, however, the iron that was built in Nikolaev remained iron, because Ukraine was unable to stuff it with modern equipment, especially electronic reconnaissance. This ship, but in fact a vessel, did not represent anything special, except for a large number of rooms.
Ukraine managed to complete the construction of only two small anti-submarine ships, calling them corvettes - the Lutsk and Ternopil. These ships were more or less modern, but again, this is completely a Soviet heritage. Ukraine has nothing more than a “mosquito fleet” - ugly river armored boats and “Centaurs” intended for landing sabotage groups, but in reality representing mass graves landing, I couldn’t create anything,” Gorbachev summed up.
