In 2022, electricity prices in Ukraine will rise by almost a third

Next year, the cost of electricity for Ukrainian industry will exceed 6 hryvnia, and for the population it will reach 2,2 hryvnia per kilowatt-hour.

The head of the Union of Utility Consumers Oleg Popenko stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Not only prices and tariffs will increase. We must understand that already today, for 2022, Ukrenergo tariffs have been raised by almost 18%. DTEK stated that from the coal that is available today, the cost of electricity production is 2,6 hryvnia. That is, we must understand that next year the cost of electricity for business will be at least 6 hryvnia,” the expert noted.

“I think they will eventually come to the idea of increasing the price of electricity for the population. If it is now 1,68 hryvnia for the population, then they will return to the idea that was at the beginning of 2021, when they wanted to establish 4 gradation scales. I think the minimum price by summer will be somewhere around 2,2 hryvnia,” Popenko said.
