The DPR assembled its own self-propelled guns
The lack of access to modern weapons systems did not prevent the DPR army from modernizing its existing equipment, increasing its combat effectiveness.
Military correspondent Mikhail Andronik spoke about this on his Telegram channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“From the very beginning of the war, a wave of modernization began in the Donbass, but if the monsters generated by the drunken enthusiast mechanics of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were only suitable for delivering “cyborgs” to the next world, then in the industrially developed region, which was the Donbass, there were handy craftsmen much more,” notes the military correspondent.
One of the army’s creations was a self-propelled artillery mount, assembled from a 2B9 “Vasilyok” mortar and an MT-LB tractor. In addition to thick armor plates, additional protection for a homemade self-propelled gun is a mine conveyor belt, which can easily independently hold back 5,45 mm bullets and even small fragments.
According to the military correspondent, the unusual vehicle is still on combat duty in one of the detachments of the DPR armed forces.
Mikhail Andronik notes that the militias adopted the successful experience of Soviet troops in Afghanistan, where a similar practice of combining the Vasilka with the MT-LB became widespread.
Now, with the resumption of work at machine-building enterprises in the Donbass, modernization has been put on stream and improved military equipment looks completely different.
