The commander of the 1st Tank Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Joint Forces Operation zone died as a result of bilateral pneumonia from infection with coronavirus, having visited all units of his brigade the day before and communicated with most of his subordinates personally.
This was reported by the press service of the People's Militia of the DPR, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Our intelligence has received information regarding the death of the commander of the 1st Tank Brigade of the VFU Mezhakov in the Joint Forces Operation zone.
Thus, the death of a Ukrainian war criminal occurred last night in his sleep, in his office at the formation headquarters in the village of Zatishnoye, southwest of Volnovakha.
The body of the deceased was taken to the Mariupol morgue for an autopsy, which revealed that death was due to bilateral pneumonia from infection with the Covid-19 coronavirus,” the statement said.
The press service noted that, according to the head of the brigade’s medical service, the brigade commander did not seek medical help and suffered the illness on his feet.
“It is important to note that over the past week, the deceased Mezhakov visited all units of his brigade, personally inspecting each platoon of his formation, and communicating with the majority of the personnel personally.
Currently, a strict quarantine has been declared in all units of the brigade. Personnel are strictly prohibited from leaving the location,” the department added.
