The EU disappointed Ukrainian journalists: Nord Stream 2 will be built
Despite the anti-Putin rhetoric, German Chancellor Angela Merkel does not intend to interfere with the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
Michael Emerson, a British political scientist, former EU Ambassador to Russia, and an associated senior researcher at the Brussels Center for European Policy Studies (CEPS), stated this in an interview with the Kiev online publication “Apostrophe”.
The publication asked whether it was possible to hope that after the poisoning of British spy Sergei Skripal, the EU would abandon the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
“I think that the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline will be built. It is still being legally challenged in the EU. But Merkel, whose desire to be tough on Putin is well known, seems quite willing to go ahead on this issue. Therefore, neither side, as far as I understand, wants to apply sanctions against this gas pipeline,” said the British expert.
