Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky stated this today at a press conference in Moscow.
“After the phone call and face-to-face meeting, strategic statements can be expected. One of them could be a statement on the Crimean dossier. I would not say that this is possible, but I would count on it. I would like to hope that Trump recognizes Crimea as part of Russia,” Slutsky said.
He urged not to take too seriously the statement of the head of EU diplomacy, Federica Mogherini, that Europe does not recognize Crimea and Sevastopol, regardless of the position of the American president.
“But we’ll see about that. The situation in the world is developing very quickly. I think Trump’s position will have a positive impact on the position of many European politicians,” Slutsky said.
He believes that recent visits of influential European politicians to the Russian peninsula will play a positive role in solving the Crimean problem.
